What is a mutt???

The dictionary defines the term as a mongrel – a dog of mixed or uncertain breed.

In his anthematic cult hit single, “So Scene, So See Through”, Ian Erix takes the meaning of the word and makes it his own, sarcastically belting the lyrics , “I’M A MUTT, I’M ALL MIXED UP. I’M A MUTT, SO WHAT, SCREWED UP!!!” In the song, Erix defines a generation and goes on to rail against a society that groups and categorizes people as if they were canned goods in a market. “I have a lot of different sides to my personality” Ian says. “I love a lot of different styles of music, clothing, movies etc. and I have a lot of different characteristics. I was tired of everyone always judging the book by the cover and having pre-determined notions about me based on what I look like. They always lump me together with certain labels when I am actually none of those labels to begin with or sometimes I am a lot of those labels all in one….so when I thought about it, I realized I was a mutt!!!”

Apparently, a lot of young people feel the same way that Ian does. His song resonated loudly with fans and an army of mutts was born!!! Soliders in the Mutt Army are supporters of Ian Erix and are part of a movement to share his message through music around the world. In 2010, with a growing demand for Erix to appear in concert globally, Ian realized he would also need a band of mutts to join him on tour and help bring his exciting stage show to life. During a promotional trip to England, he auditioned several musicians but had a hard time finding the right matches. At the recommendation of one of his record producers, Ian left London to visit a studio/rehearsal complex near the city of Manchester, UK where he was introduced to several potential bandmates by mutual acquaintances.

Erix hit it off instantly with guitarist Chez Davis, bassist Bradley James Whittaker and drummer Louis Davis. The trio rehearsed with Ian acoustically as a trial for his upcoming promotional appearance on MTV and the guys became fast friends. Paul Wooliscroft, Chez’s former bandmate in another project was later brought in on guitar to round out the band as well as Jamie Skehan on synths/keys. During intense rehearsals over the course of several months, the band grew together fantastically and have created a dynamic live show with an undeniable chemistry that makes each song they perform come alive in technicolor.

United under their shared love of music but hailing from different walks of life and nationalities with diverse interests and unique personalities each their own, Mutt Army is aptly named. 2012 will see the launch of highly anticipated new music from Ian Erix and the Mutt Army band will be by his side as he embarks on a worldwide tour to support his record globally. Chocked full of compelling, sometimes thought provoking and often quirky lyrics, Ian stays true to his pop/punk roots on his upcoming album but also brings in solid amounts of modern dance beats and synth elements to create a fantastically catchy electro rock hybrid sound that lends itself to a high energy, hyped up show that is sure to thoroughly entertain a legion of Mutt Army Soldiers when the tour kicks off later this year!!!!
